A special breast cancer screening event is happening next month to encourage women – who have never had a mammogram before – to get one.

Mammograms are for routine screenings in women with no current breast symptoms such as lumps. There is overwhelming scientific evidence that supports having these screenings annually starting at age 40 for most women, or earlier if you have certain risk factors.

With one in six breast cancers occurring in women in their 40s, Community Memorial Hospital team members in Cancer and Specialty Care know the important role early detection can have to save lives.

That’s why the hospital is hosting the Forty First Mammos Commission on Cancer Screening Event on Sept. 7, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the South Hill medical campus.

Community Memorial Hospital is accepting insured and underinsured patients for the event. Each screening is expected to take 30 minutes, so organizers encourage you to call ahead to reserve a spot. Please call (434) 584-5219 to reserve a screening time slot during this special event.
